Tips for Single-Ply Maintenance

Tips for Single-Ply Maintenance

The life expectancy of a single-ply roofing system is anywhere from 20 to 30 years if it is regularly inspected and maintained. Single-ply is lightweight, flexible, and helps you lower your utility cost if you follow the proper single-ply maintenance. It is a great roofing option but requires regular maintenance like all commercial roofs.

Single-Ply Maintenance Tips:

Regular Inspections are Key – The quicker an issue is discovered and fixed, the less damage it will cause. This is why inspections are vital in ensuring the longevity of your roofing membrane. We recommend having your roof inspected at least twice a year.

Keep a Clean Roof – Debris that gathers on your roof can tear or puncture the single-ply membrane. It can also build up in the drainage and cause pooling on the roof. Plant growth should be removed during inspections as well because it can damage the waterproofing and the single-ply seams.

Check Your Roof After Storms – After a thunderstorm with heavy winds and rain, it is always a good idea to check your commercial roof. If the flashing was damaged or not installed properly, it can cause your roof to lift at the edges. Any debris that was blown onto the roof could have also torn the membrane.

Repair the Seams – Overtime, single-ply seams can lift and become loose. This can be caused by shrinkage, UV damage, or improper adhesion methods. If the seam isn’t repaired, it can cause water damage in the insulation and mold growth.

Use a Trusted Company – When having your roof inspected, repaired, or cleaned, you want to make sure you are using a trusted and insured company. This will increase the likelihood that the job will be done correctly and the proper safety protocols will be implemented. When you choose Pyramid, you can rest assured that our team is equipped with the knowledge and training to get the job done safely and properly.
